Propain was founded in 2006 by Markus Zander and Robert Krauss, and in the beginning Markus Zander's basement served as the company headquarters. In 2008, the Propain Rage, designed by Robert Krauss, was launched. After several moves and the arrival of David Assfalg in 2012, which also paved the way for the move to Propain Bicycles GmbH, the company then landed in Vogt with enlarged business premises. Over the years, the product range has steadily expanded and with the Propain Factory Racing Team, for example, the company also participates in the Downhill World Cup. In order to be able to guarantee continuous success, they have also initiated an extremely strict quality assurance system so that every bike is delivered in tip-top condition.
The Tyee can be chosen with either a carbon frame or an aluminium frame and there are different configurations available for each variant. The Propain Tyee bikes are available in different frame sizes and the common frame sizes are, for example, size M or size L, while the Tyee CF is still available in XXL and the Tyee with aluminium frame also comes in size S. In terms of wheel size, either the more playful 27.5 inchers can be fitted or the 29er for more speed. The Propain Tyee is an extremely powerful enduro mountain bike that has been put under the microscope several times by mtb-news.de. The first test report from mtb-news.de was published in 2020, for the Propain Tyee bikes in general, and the next report from 2021 was more specific and looked at the Propain Tyee CF 29. The readers of mtb-news.de were so enthusiastic about the Tyee Enduro mountain bikes that the MTB-News Award 2022 for the best Enduro bike finally went to the Propain Tyee. The girls and boys from MTB-News left nothing to chance and put the bike together as they wished using the configurator. They chose the crème de la crème of components so that they could really go all out when testing.
The new Propain Tyee CF is the improved version of the previous model and impresses with even more stiffness and takes enduro bike performance to the next level. It is bursting with power, even on steep climbs, and it also immediately regains the desired speed after tighter turns or obstacles. This is made possible by the extremely light carbon frame, with which you can also throw yourself into the fun in the bike park without any problems. Thanks to its long wheelbase, the Propain Tyee CF MTB shines on fast-paced descents and has nothing to hide from. With this type of chassis, you are ideally equipped for any enduro use, whether on trails or as a freerider through the treetops. Pure riding fun is guaranteed with the Tyee CF.
The Tyee AL is a real all-rounder that you can also put together as you please in the configurator, depending on what your biker's heart desires, from the frame colour and decals to the badge on the head tube. In this way, you can make your Enduro bike as individual as possible. The steeper seat tube helps to improve the seat angle, which makes it easier to master climbs, and thanks to the flatter steering angle, the bike behaves more smoothly on the track.
Over the years, the versatile use, including participation in the World Cup, has resulted in a number of innovations that have then been incorporated into the new Propain bikes, or the products have even been optimised in the process. In addition to the fully integrated cabling, which not only looks better but also protects against dirt, the Dirt Shield was introduced. The Dirt Shield protects the Acros bearing from further environmental influences with a small seal and to be better protected against impacts, the Tyee AL also has protection on the chain stay and down tube. If you want to start equipping from scratch, you can use the Tyee AL frameset, which is available in 3 colour options.
Pedals, which are attached to the bottom bracket, are not included with Propain, as with many other premium manufacturers.
The chassis can be customised as desired with the Propain configurator. If you don't want to do this, the Propain Tyee bikes are available in 3 different standard variants, with the start, performance and high-end bikes. The components include well-known names such as SRAM, Fox, RockShox, Newmen, Magura and Schwalbe. In addition, some models also use Propain's own research products.
The gear groups include the SRAM X01 Eagle or the SRAM GX Eagle and the brakes are either the SRAM Code RSC or the brakes from Magura. Regardless of which Propain Tyee model you choose, it is guaranteed that all bikes are equipped with efficient disc brakes, as Propain has not used rim brakes for some time. The latter still have a clear weight advantage and are also easier to change, but they no longer achieve the necessary performance, especially in the wet, which is very important for MTBs.
The Tyee CF with carbon frame as well as the Tyee AL with aluminium frame, both have a 160 mm travel at the rear and a 170 mm travel at the suspension fork. The bikes can be chosen with either a steel shock or an air shock, whereby a steel shock is better suited for downhill and an air shock has better all-round characteristics. Among other things, the RockShox Super Deluxe Ultimate and the Fox Float X2 Factory are chosen for the rear triangle, or the Fox 36 Factory Kashima suspension fork is used.
For the saddle, the Sixpack Kamikaze is the preferred choice and for the seatpost, the Fox Transfer Factory, Bikeyoke Revive or the Propain development are used.
The seatpost plus the saddle, handlebars and stem ensure the right riding position for the rider, which can vary depending on whether you mainly climb steep climbs or prefer to thunder down the slopes at top speed. For the stem, you rely on the Sixpack Millenium.
The Tyee CF as well as the Tyee AL are available with 27.5 and 29 inch wheels. The larger wheels have better rolling characteristics and a smoother ride, making them suitable for longer trips. However, if you want to go for a spin through the bike park, the smaller rims are recommended as they give you more agility and manoeuvrability and allow you to meander through the trails at your best, whether it's steep climbs or fast downhill descents. You should therefore think about how and where your Propain Tyee MTB will be used most often beforehand. When it comes to the tyres, you should then go for Schwalbe Magic Mary tyres for the rear wheel as well as the front wheel.
In addition to clothing, accessories, pedals and decals, there is a wide range of spare parts to buy at propain-bikes.com. When it comes to clothing, for example, you can choose between casual wear suitable for everyday use and performance clothing.
In addition to Enduro bikes, there are also trail bikes, such as the Propain Hugene, and for those who prefer to buy a freeride bike, the Propain Spindrift models are the perfect choice. For downhill fans, Propain has the Rage, which has been constantly improved over the last 15 years, but has lost none of its charm. For dirt lovers who really want to get going on pump tracks, the Propain Trickshot is the best way to achieve maximum riding fun. In the Kids Bikes range, there's everything from pushbikes to full-suspension bikes, with the Bam Bam pushbike, the Dreckspatz hardtail and the Frechdax and Yuma fullys. For those who fancy motorised support or are simply not yet in the right shape to follow the rest of the group, the Spindrift e-bikes are the ideal choice. If you want, you can also borrow a test bike first via propain-bikes.com via the Friends option to avoid possibly choosing the wrong bike. By the way, the Propain bikes can be compared excellently with similar bikes from Santa Cruz or Cube.
If you have any questions about the components, frame height, bike type or whatever else is unclear to you, we at Buycycle are always available for advice.
