Cube Acid - The ideal hardtail mountain bike for your next adventure
Cube is a company from Germany and has always been based in Waldershof in the Upper Palatinate in the Fichtelgebirge. Since its foundation in 1993 by Marcus Pürner, the company is now represented in over 60 countries and has grown to almost 1000 employees. Not only has the company become an important employer in the region, but it has also had a positive knock-on effect on suppliers, partners and other industries involved. When they built a new production and logistics building, which now employs more than 600 people, the old production facility was converted into a showroom where the current models are displayed, divided into their respective themes. To leave a smaller carbon footprint, the buildings have also been linked to a cycle path. An additional positive side effect of the short distances is a very efficient processing through all departments, from order receipt, to production, to shipping, which ensures a faster delivery time. Furthermore, Cube is also very concerned about sustainability. The packaging of the standard boxes is made of 100% recycled paper, while for the e-bikes they have a quota of 80% recycled paper and 20% FSC certified virgin cellulose from sustainable forestry, for better moisture protection as well as to have a more robust packaging. There is also a photovoltaic system on the office building and a combined heat and power plant in the building, using electricity as "waste". With this advanced system, Cube manages to cover about 50% of its electricity needs.
The 2022 Cube Acid mountain bikes stand out due to their smooth-welded frame and clear optical design. The bikes are available in the trendy colors gray and pearl gray or frost white'n'black and the aluminum Lite frame is available in frame sizes XS to XXL, with Size Split System. The improved look is achieved, among other things, by the integrated cable pulls, which thus not only last longer but are also easy to maintain. The Acid MTBs also have mounting points to which a mudguard or luggage rack can be attached. With a lower top tube and improved geometry, the handling has been optimized even further. In addition, a lowerable seat post has been integrated for more experienced riders to meet their requirements.
Children's bikes include the Cube Acid 240 SL, Cube Acid 200 and the Cube Cube Acid CMPT, all of which are equipped with derailleur gears.
A perfectly coordinated selection in the choice of components
The components of the Cube Acid mountain bikes have been carefully selected and are optimally matched to each other for the best riding comfort and maximum riding pleasure, whatever the terrain. The products come from well-known manufacturers such as SRAM, Shimano and Schwalbe. Cube's own development department also uses a range of outstanding components, which are then extensively tested in the test lab, just like the products from suppliers, to ensure that the components not only meet the design-specific requirements, but also comply with the safety standards.
Derailleur groups & brakes
The Cube Acid MTB uses Shimano and SRAM products for the groupsets and brakes, such as the Sram NX Eagle for the rear derailleur and shifter, or the Sram Stylo Eagle for the crankset. For the chain, for example, you rely on the Sram SX Eagle and for the bottom bracket on the SRAM Dub. The brakes are again Shimano BR-MT200/UR300, Hydr. Disc Brake, PM/FM (180/160).
The hydraulic disc brakes have the advantage that, in addition to maximum braking power, they can also be dosed very well compared to the mechanical disc brakes. Due to the self-contained system, the hydraulic disc brakes require relatively little maintenance and the brake pads also adjust automatically. A small drawback is the complicated installation and the higher price. However, if you need every bit of extra braking power, you should not be put off by this. One advantage of the mechanical disc brake, as well as the rim brake, is that they are easier to maintain, but the rim brake has even worse braking power than the mechanical disc brake, especially in wet and muddy conditions.
Shock
The suspension fork chosen is the RockShox Judy Silver TK AIR, PopLoc air suspension fork, with 100 mm travel.
Saddle / seatpost and handlebars / wheels
The saddle used is Cube's own Natural Fit Venec saddle, which offers more legroom thanks to its T-shape and reduces pressure thanks to FlexMotion Cut technology. In addition, it has a Natural Fit Ergo relief channel and a shock absorber at the frame mount, at a weight of 272 grams. The Dropper Post also relies on a Cube product, with the Cube Performance Post, which ensures an extra secure fit of the saddle.
The Cube Acid MTB has a CUBE Rise Trail Bar handlebar plus Acid React grips, as well as the Cube Performance Stem SL as a stem, which in conjunction with the saddle including seatpost ensure the optimum seating position. The headset is the CUBE FPH868, semi integrated.
The wheel size is either 27.5" or 29" and the front hub is the Shimano Deore HB-M6000, QR, Centerlock and the rear hub is the Shimano Deore FH-M6000, QR, Centerlock. The rims are again based on Cube developments, such as the CUBE ZX20, 32H, Disc rim, and the tyres are Schwalbe Smart Sam.
The Schwalbe Smart Sam is a perennial favorite among tyres that has all-round properties and easily masters the transition from asphalt to rough terrain. The off-road tread ensures a relaxed ride and is even more durable thanks to the robust center bar. Due to the angular outer lugs, you have the grip you need on uneven surfaces while giving the rider a feeling of security so that you can tackle the most challenging terrain without any problems.
Additional equipment
The Cube stores, as well as the online shop, have a wide range of products, such as a clothing collection, accessories such as a bottle cage including bottle, or components such as pedals, cranks, rear derailleur, etc. The portfolio is set up in such a way that you can find the right spare parts and additional equipment for almost every Cube bike. If you have treated yourself to the stylish Acid or another outstanding Cube bike, you can also add a few extras to your shopping basket to round off your purchase.
