Basso road bike - over 40 years of quality from Italy
Basso Bikes, also known as Cicli Basso, was founded in Italy in 1977 by Alcide Basso, brother of world champion Marino Basso. The third of the brothers, Renato Basso, was more interested in his schooling in the beginning, but later became the financial director of Cicli Basso. Before the company was officially registered, Alcide Basso started manufacturing bicycles already in 1974 in Rettorgole the Caldogno, in his family's garage. The headquarters of Basso Bikes is located in San Zenone degli Ezzelini, in the province of Treviso and the production in turn is located in Dueville, 40 kilometers away, in the province of Vicenza. In the first two years of the launch 1978 - 1979 in Italy, as well as on the international scene, Germany became one of the main markets for Basso Bikes. In the beginning, large quantities of the frames were shipped from Italy to Germany, which were initially made of steel. Since 1996, Basso road bikes, or gravel bikes and e-bikes, have been available with a lightweight carbon frame, which, especially in the case of the new products, is also available with aero properties. The first carbon frame was then sent to the university in Graz for testing. Even cycling legend Eddy Merckx stopped by Basso to get ideas and inspiration for his own brand. Then, at the end of the 80s, they took over the Pogliaghi brand name. With over 400 dealers in more than 25 countries, Basso Bikes continues to be well represented internationally and is also active as a sponsor in cycling, such as Adria Mobil, or even the English women's professional team of Cams-Basso. Basso Bikes were for a long time to be found almost everywhere in Germany, but have fallen by the high-quality competition, a little behind, although they continue to deliver quality products Made in Italy. Whether for private tours, to work, or just on the weekend, as well as for competitive cycling, the Basso road bike inspires by purest driving pleasure. You just want to keep pedaling and enjoy the tours to the fullest. In addition to the Basso road bike, there are also gravel bikes, e-bikes, commuter bikes and also still a section for bikes with a steel frameset. The brother of Alcide Basso, Marino Basso also rode for the Bianchi-Campagnolo team.
The Basso road bike is available in 7 different models, with a variety of configurations, depending on the requirements and area of use, for optimal riding pleasure. In addition to the frame height and color, you can also choose from plenty of components, from various manufacturers. There is once the Basso Diamante SV series, then still the Basso Diamante Disc, Basso Diamante Rim, as well as the Basso Astra and Basso Venta Disc models. Furthermore, there is still the Basso Venta Rim and the Basso Volta Road. The respective variants are also available for purchase as a frameset. The Basso Diamante SV is the premium version, where the novelties are still slightly better tuned and thus again a tad faster than their predecessors. The Basso Diamante SV road bikes have also already collected some awards. The Basso Diamante Disc is equipped with disc brakes, while the Basso Rim is braked via the rims. The Basso Venta Disc and Basso Venta Rim also differ mainly by the different brake types and also still offer an excellent price-performance ratio. The models of the Basso Astra series are cheaper than the Basso Diamante SV road bikes, but have also helped themselves to a few features of the big brother. The Basso Volta Road is an e-bike based on the Basso Palta.
The widest possible choice of components
Basso lets you configure your frameset almost at will, with the components of your choice. High-quality components from Campagnolo, Shimano, SRAM, Microtech, Continental and DT Swiss are used.
Groupsets
In the shifting groups you can choose for the Basso road bike equal among the 3 most renowned manufacturers, with Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM. Among others, the Campagnolo Chorus 12, Shimano Ultegra, SRAM Force eTap AXS, Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Campagnolo Super Record EPS, Shimano Ultegra Di2, SRAM Rival 2x12 eTap AXS, Shimano 105, or the Campagnolo Centaur are available.
Brakes
The Basso road bikes are available, partly optionally, with rim brakes or with disc brakes. The braking performance over the rim is greatly reduced, especially in wet weather, compared to the disc brakes, which still deliver an excellent performance. Brakes like to be matched with the shift groups and therefore also come from Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM.
Saddle & Seatpost
The seatpost is a product of Basso's own innovation and often already included in the frameset. There is the Venta Carbon seatpost, Diamante SV - 15 mm seatpost, as well as the Venta 3B seatpost. The saddle can come from Selle Italia, for example, like the Selle San Marco Regal saddle. The frame size in combination with a well adjusted seatpost increase the riding comfort significantly. The Selle San Marco Regal is a vintage saddle, which, due to high demand, has been reintroduced into the range. With its 369 grams, the saddle is by no means a lightweight, but many riders look at the seat comfort even gladly times over the few extra grams, as long as the saddle offers them a comfortable seating experience, which can be extremely important, especially on longer trips. There is the saddle with 4 different saddle covers to choose from, in smooth black, white leather, textured black leather and in brown suede. The end of the saddle is fastened by stylish copper rivets, which gives the retro look an extra kick. For those who want it a little lighter, there is the slightly more expensive Ti-Railed version, which weighs only around 280 grams.
Handlebar
For handlebars and stem relies either on components from their own house, or from Microtech. The product developments of Basso are, for example, an aero handlebar, aero stem and the Diamante stem. From Microtech, the Microtech Quantum Compact and Microtech XL handlebars are used. Handlebars and stem not only provide a suitable seating position, but thanks to the aero properties are also responsible for a more streamlined driving.
Wheels / Rims / Hubs
For the wheelset, which includes rims and hubs, the following products from Microtech and Campagnolo are available, such as the Microtech RE38, Campagnolo Bora WTO Dark 45, Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO 45, Microtech MR Lite, Microtech MCT Rim, Microtech MR Lite, MIcrotech MCT Disc, or even the Microtech Krium.
Tires are stretched, among others, DT Swiss and Continental, both of which enjoy a very good reputation in the cycling scene.
Additional equipment
As accessories, you can still buy, for example, the Diamante standard computer mount and additional spacers.
